Because most of the targets usually are moving, the EM signal suffers a frequency operation shift, that can also be interpreted by the radar system, so it is possible detect the speed and direction. If the object has movable parts such as the propeller of an airplane or the rotor of a helicopter, the EM signal undergoes a added displacement frequency around the central frequency, usually called Doppler RCS Spectral Density or Micro-Doppler effect.
